Warehouse Bin Maintenance

The purpose of this screen is to allow the user to manage bins. From this area, the user can: create a new bin, delete an empty bin, and add items to or remove items from the bin. One benefit of using this area (as opposed to using Stock Item Maintenance or Virtual Stock Item Maintenance to manage bins from the item's perspective)  is that you can allow warehouse personnel to edit bin contents without letting them have access to the Item Maintenance area.

In this screen, the user begins by specifying the warehouse in which the bin is located. This value is defaulted based on the warehouse that the user is assigned to, if any. If at any time the user changes the warehouse, the user is prompted to save any data that they are currently working on (when applicable) and the screen is cleared. This is intended to prevent the user from becoming confused as to which warehouse the bin on the screen is located within.

Once the warehouse is selected, the user is able to open an existing bin or create a new bin. After acquiring a bin record, the user can change the bin's name and/or description. The user can also delete the bin as long as no items are currently assigned to it. The user can also perform three item related tasks: an item can be added to the bin, an item can be removed from the bin, and any item in the bin can have its "Primary Bin Location" flag toggled on or off.

The "Primary Bin Location" flag lets the system know that this is the bin in which the item is typically stored and is not an overflow bin. Bins that are marked with this designation are the only bins that the system will consider when using bin related logic, such as is found in Physical Count Worksheets and other areas throughout the system.
